Congratulations to The University of Melbourne IEEE Student Branch for winning two major awards in national and region level. They won ‘The Outstanding Student Branch’ award by the IEEE Australia Council for the year 2015. They also won ‘Regional Exemplary Student Branch’ award by Region 10 during the recent IEEE R10 SYWLC congress held in India this month.

Over the last few years, the UniMelb student branch has shown a vast growth and previously recognized as the Outstanding Student Branch in Victorian Section in 2015. Among many events organized by the student branch, the career development programs, IEEE day celebrations, game nights, mentoring programs and industry tours were highly rates by the participants. The contributions of UniMelb members were individually recognized by IEEE by awarding number of scholarships and awards including Richard Merwin Scholarship (6 times).

The Australian Council award was previously won by other Victorian Section Universities (La Trobe University in 2014). This is the first time a Victorian Section has won ‘Exemplary Student Branch award in Region 10’.

We are extremely grateful to all the past and present UniMelb committee members who have shown a great commitment to achieve such a high goals.
