Join us for end of year networking with women engineers in Victoria. Meet Julia Gibney, the speaker of the event who will talk about the steps she has taken in her career path so far to make a difference.

Julia Gibney has an Aviation Engineering background, with 23 years in the Defence industry working in various positions, ranging from engineering processes, maintenance, administration and auditing to technical risk management and personnel training. Julia started in 1994 as an Avionics Technician with the Royal Australian Navy, predominantly working on Seahawk Helicopters. In 2008, she commenced engineering studies and completed a Bachelor of Electronic/ Communications Engineering in June 2012. Since then, Julia has completed a Master of Engineering (Airworthiness) with RMIT University and a Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Human Factors with Swinburne University. Whilst in Defence she predominantly worked on Squirrel helicopters and in other engineering positions within Defence. For the majority of her engineering career she has been a single parent to two girls, who are now aged 16 and 18.
In February 2017 she left Defence to pursue a passion of hers, being Safety Management and Assurance certification activities in another area of transport being Rail. Julia currently works with Metro Trains Melbourne on the Melbourne Tunnel Project providing expert advice on all things safety related.
