Social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Twitter, personal websites and other online profiles can be a fantastic way to showcase yourself and your work, connect with like-minded individuals and may provide new and exciting opportunities. In this event, we'll be talking to prominent researchers and specialists about their use of different platforms and the advantages of having an active online profile. We'll be discussing which platforms work best for different purposes, success stories, online networking and collaboration, finding new opportunities, intertwining professional and personal interests online and more. Speakers Dr Suelette Dreyfus Dr Suelette Dreyfus is an academic in the School of Computing and Information Systems. She conducts research in information systems but also has a career as a successful technology writer. She wrote the first mainstream book about computer hacking in Australia with Julian Assange. ‘Underground’ has been translated into 7 languages and made into 2 films, one of which she was the Associate Producer on. Her articles have appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian, The Independent (London) and in magazine. She has curated and hosted numerous public events, including half a dozen events at Splendour in the Grass, the largest music festival in the southern hemisphere, in the Science Tent and the Forum, the ‘great ideas and issues’ venue. Her research has been in digital whistleblowing, cybersecurity and the incident and error reporting in hospitals. She has a PhD from Monash. Dr Ross McKenzie Dr Ross McKenzie is a leading business growth and turnaround expert for Startups, SMBs & SMEs. Having held senior executive positions at National Australia Bank, Westpac and the global consulting firm Capgemini, to name a few, Ross left the corporate sector in his late 40's to start his own company. As the founder and CEO of The Startup Business, his focus is helping entrepreneurs and business owners across Australia and internationally grow and scale their own businesses by providing relevant education, coaching, advisory and done-for-you outsourcing services. In addition, he holds multiple directorships and company advisor roles including at APAC Forums, a startup business technology event company.
